Our Meishan Story
Like many, we had never heard of the Meishan. We knew pork came from pigs, and that was the extent of our pork industry knowledge. We did have some experience with cattle though. We knew that certain breeds of cattle were preferable to others in terms of meat quality, and that was the beginning of our research into the Meishan!
After countless hours of research into the hog industry and the Meishan, I reached out to Laura Jenson at Meishan Preservation in Georgia. She is THE Meishan guru and was so helpful in tracking down a breeding pair to get started. She connected me with other breeders on the East coast and sent over a ton of pedigrees for me to take a look at. One week later, a new trailer hooked up, we were on our way to Georgia to pick up Style and Noname. While we were there, Laura gave us the ultimate pig farm tour, a tour of her farm store, and answered the pages of our beginner questions!
Our ride back home was filled with excitement and a horrific thunderstorm that followed us from Northern Georgia to Southern Kentucky! We finally made it home and have been on our Meishan journey ever since.
